Somerset-based Cox & Cox is an ecommerce pureplay brand, which has enjoyed fast growth since its formation in 2001. The company used Magento 1 for its retail website, which helped to fuel this growth. By 2016, it became clear that the business was outgrowing the platform and its extensions, so they needed to look towards a more scalable solution in order to maintain this level of growth.
Having recognised the issue, the challenge for Cox & Cox was to find the right platform to help revamp their outdated website, deliver faster performance and create innovative and mobile-friendly shopping experiences for their customers.

Migration from Magento 1 to Magento 2
After extensive research and planning, Cox & Cox concluded that Magento 2 was the most suitable platform to enable them to continue their growth and reach meet their objectives. As a well-respected Magento development agency, Space 48 was successful in tendering for the project and entrusted to deliver the new website build and provide the support and expertise for the platform migration.
The project spanned eight months, from December 2016 to 16th August 2017, when the new website was launched. With Space 48’s expertise combined with Cox & Cox’s knowledge of the industry, the project delivered a truly innovative and transformative website, boasting a host of unique and custom functionality.
Product feeds – using a data feed management tool that allowed specific feeds to be created for Google Shopping, GoDirect Marketing and Conversant Digital Marketing
Google Tag Manager – custom module that pushed additional data to the GTM Data Layer, allowing easy integration with many more services without extra scripts being added to the Cox & Cox codebase
Front-end – built to the latest standards using Magento’s built-in front-end framework and theming capabilities
Homepage – fully managed and
Bespoke shipping options – fulfilled by Temando, using a custom module that integrates with Magento 2 dynamically providing the appropriate shipping rates based on basket contents and available stock
Site personalisation – Space 48 built a bespoke module for integration with Magento 2 offering site personalisation for customers delivered through the SLI learning platform
Enhanced search – a feature that has increased the relevance and quality of search results utilising the SLI Learning Search platform
Dynamic promotional banners – an integration with Sub2 Tech allows the promotional banners on site to dynamically load based on the latest marketing campaign and based on customer history (85% of all orders use some form of a promotional code)

Increased Revenues, Mobile Sales and Conversions
Space 48 helped Cox & Cox not only meet its objectives with this project, but the results exceeded the targets in almost half the target time! Here are the key targets and outcomes below:

As well as meeting the project objectives, the Magento 2 upgrade has helped Cox & Cox to improve many other key metrics of the business and the ecommerce website, such as faster page load times, reduced bounce rate (-15%) and an increased average session duration (+15%). A really key improvement was the surge in average order value (AOV). Cox & Cox saw a 24% increase in overall AOV, which we put down to the innovative new features of the site.
Most impressive was the amount of revenue the mobile site has generated compared to before the Magento 2 upgrade. Cox & Cox has seen a 51% revenue increase through its mobile site. The project was not only a huge success, but Magento 2 has set them up for future growth for many years to come.
